Senior Crafts

Crafts are a fun hobby for people of all ages. Seniors who have extra time on their hands might want to try making some crafts of their own. Senior crafts should be simple to manipulate and easy to decorate to allow the majority of seniors to participate.

Seniors generally love to garden. Gardening is typically one of the most best liked activities for senior citizen centers, so why not use flowers in a variety of senior crafts? One creative craft that allows senior gardeners to express themselves artistically is arranging flowers. Flower arrangements are best done with bright, beautiful flowers, so spring and summer months might be the best time to participate in this craft. However, autumn months might yield some great flowers to be used in a cornucopia for Thanksgiving. If you have any fruits and vegetables in the garden, consider picking these as well and using them for the cornucopia. This symbol of plenty will be treasured by seniors during the holidays.

A further senior craft that can be done for the holidays is making Christmas cards. There are many ways to decorate Christmas cards. Red or green glitter pens can be used to draw traditional Christmas symbols, like Christmas trees or ornaments. Have seniors try to come up with funny or clever messages for the Christmas cards if possible. Seniors who have trouble drawing or decorating Christmas cards might want to use clippings from holiday magazines to decorate the card. When the cards are finished, the seniors might want to exchange them amongst themselves or donate them to a hospital.

Senior crafts should be lively activities that give them the freedom of artistic expression. Ideally, their crafts should be donated to a good cause or used as a decoration for a senior citizen center.
