Reading is one of the world’s favorite hobbies especially for the senior citizen. As we age our brains need exercise, as the rest of our bodies, but it is easier to achieve. Reading is a creative and appealing way to achieve that goal. The older generation has the time to enjoy this fascinating hobby.
Reading materials can consist of about any category you can imagine. Public libraries are a great place to start to explore your favorite subjects or perhaps introduce you into a new range of possibilities. Some older adults may find reading difficult because of physical limitations. Several things can help them with viewing the reading materials. Large print books, papers, magazines and puzzle books are becoming more available. Book lights, reading glasses, page magnifiers, book-stands and pillow book holders help those with physical difficulties.
Reading can also be enjoyed with audio books. Listen to a story being read to you by professional readers. Audio books are a wonderful alternative for the individual who is dyslexic, has difficulty-seeing (blind), or likes to take walks and listen to a cassette player to make the time fly by quickly. Reading is the best and easiest way to travel around the world to exotic places and perhaps learn some history about different cultures or countries. Inside a great book, you can find adventure, romance, suspense, mystery or become a favorite character such as a fairy princess, a savory pirate, an astronaut, cowboy or superhero.
