Reading is a great way to relax and learn something new while you are doing it. Of course it depends on what kind of book you are reading. Seniors like to read self improvement books and self help books because they like to feel independent. These books teach them about ways to do some of the things that they know already but haven't given it much thought.
The truth is that they have spent their lives looking after other people including their own families and now they are left alone. Reading will improve their skills of remembering and it will also open up a new world for them because they can learn from someone else' wisdom. Reading expands the mind so that you can learn more each time you open up a book.
Another thing that seniors like to do is to read stories to kids. It makes them feel young again because when they read the story, they always put the right tone and voice for the story. They don't get embarrassed too easily by watching a child laugh at them when they try to pout or sound a little squeaky to make the story a little more interesting to the child. They will even make a very low voice to sound like a bad guy in the story, like the big bad wolf. Seniors are big kids at heart and that is why they like to have the kids around them. Most of them were too busy to read to their kids when they were raising them.
