The History of Puzzles

Puzzles are a great way for people to entertain and relax, plus their are so many types of puzzles to do. Here are a couple of the more popular puzzles that people all over the world can do as a hobby. Erno Rubik was a 29 year old living in Budapest, when he designed the cube as a puzzle in 1974. His puzzle has 43 quintrillion incorrect ways to try and solve it, but only one correct way to solve the puzzle.

Erno spent hours hand carving and putting together the little cubes to make one big cube. He marked each side of the big cube with adhesive paper of many colors, and started to aimlessly turn the cube. At first he did not know if he would not be able to get the puzzle back to the way it was when he started twisting it. Then Erno began to figure out an answer to the puzzle, he started by adjusting the eight corner cubes and discovered a definite progression of moves for aranging a few small cubes at a time.

It took a month before Erno Rubik had the puzzle figured out, and the Rubiks cube went on to become one of the most popular and colorful puzzles in the world. Crossword puzzles are said to be one of the most popular and universal word games ever. The first published crossword puzzle was made up by a journalist named Arthur Wynne, who is generally thought of as the inventor of the popular word game. Wynne's puzzle was different from today's puzzle, because it was in the shape of a diamond and had no internal black squares.
