Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking is a fun way to preserve your memories and photographs. It is a great way to keep your sports articles and pictures organized through the years. You can add your own personal touch with color and decorations. Scrapbooking also provides social networking groups to share your ideas and your creations. People who create scrapbooks are often called scrapbookers or scrappers.

Not many supplies are needed to create your scrapbook; however the most important piece is the album. Other materials needed are cardstock and background paper, photo corner mounts or other adhesive for mounting, art pens, scissors, stencils, rubber stamps, craft punches and embossing tools. Depending on your preference you can also add stickers, sequins, fabric and any other material that suits your needs. The rewarding part of scraping is being able to share the finished products with others.

Digital scrapbooking is gaining popularity. Supplies needed for digital scrapbooking are a computer, desktop publishing program, scanner and of course the album. The best thing about digital scrapbooking is you can see the final project before it is printed, there is less waste and you don’t need rubber stamps and extra supplies.

In the United States, Marielen Christensen of Utah was the originator of scrapbooking by designing creative albums for her family photos. There are over 1,600 companies that produce scrapbooking supplies. The scrapbooking industry has doubled its sales since 2004. Retail sales reached $425 million in 2004. There are over 25 million people in the United States that participate in scrapbooking.
