The senior demographic group has earned the privilege to spend much of their time enjoying leisure activities. Most seniors are retired or headed in that direction soon and thus have time to fill with activities that will replace work with relaxation. This interaction with others can simulate the competition, achievement and teamwork that were practiced during their many years of work. The Entertainment Software Association states that over 25% of all gamers are over the age of 50. Playing electronic video games can help keep the seniors’ mind and reflexes sharp.
Using the Wii gaming technology, seniors can enjoy going bowling with their grandchildren without getting out of their chair. The Wii provides many games that seniors can play to simulate senior pastimes that contain physical movements no longer capable of the seniors. However, the movement of the controller in relation to the pickup sensor makes it very easy for the senior to perform and enjoy the thrill of being a proxy baseball player, skier, Olympian or one of many other sporting roles.
