Help with Aging

Aging is hard to accept in many ways. Our muscles get weak. Our joints are stiff and painful. We find it difficult to move or bend over. Keeping our balance is difficult and we fear falling. No one said getting older was easy. However, there is one solution that makes a big difference and helps keep a person young as long as possible. It is easy, fun, and doesn't cost a great deal.

Swimming should be at the top of everyone's exercise list. It is one exercise that the elderly can do, even if he has medical problems such as type two diabetes, or knee or joint problems. The benefits are enormous and come in a short period of time. While the high impact exercise can be harmful to bones, joints and muscles, swimming is helpful for all these. People over 50, who have not maintained exercise, can use swimming to tone and strengthen their bodies. Since the water supports the body, there is less stress on joints and bones. A person is able to move without bearing his own weight. It is a great fitness activity, the best cardio exercise possible.

It not only strengthens joints and flexibility, it reduces aches and pains and helps build up our immune system to fight off disease. It helps posture and physical appearance by toning muscles. It helps control weight and appetite. It eases muscle tension and reduces stress. It also reduces the risk of osteoporosis. What other exercise can do so much for us in as short a time? Everyone should be heading for the pool, but seniors especially should be going. Enjoy the swim.
