Travel as a Fun Activity for Seniors

As a group, seniors today are more affluent and can be just as active as any other age demographic. This is well known in the travel industry, where competition is hot for senior travel dollars. There are websites devoted to senior travel, senior discounts available from hotels, restaurants, airlines, cruise lines, and senior travel groups. It's not a question of 'what are some fun travel activities for seniors', but rather 'how do we choose from among them?'

At Elder Treks, for example, small groups of seniors age 50 and older can travel the world on any of dozens of exciting adventures. The possibilities are rated by activity level (1 - 5) and range from a few days to a few weeks. Their package prices include all meals, accommodation, domestic transportation and domestic departure taxes, entrance fees, tips at hotels and restaurants. The itineraries are diverse and exotic, off the beaten tourist track, and lead by experienced guides.

Exploritas is a not-for-profit educational organization with over 8000 tours in all 50 states and more than 90 countries. It is their mission to promote lifelong learning and healthy aging in our society. Exploritas has made connections with educators and other local “insiders” all around the world, showing off the world’s landmarks, natural wonders and myriad cultures in a way that offers a much deeper experience than a commercial tour. All expenses are covered in the package price.

Another option would be to join a local senior travel group. Attend a few meetings first to get a feel for how compatible you are with the other participants and how well the group fits your travel preferences.
