Crochet as a Senior Hobby

As we grow older we seem to develop more patience therefore retirement age is the wonderful time to learn to crochet if you don't already know how. Crocheting is simply connecting loops of thread or yarn to create rows or squares into a specific pattern and is fairly quick and easy to learn. Crocheting is an inexpensive hobby and is perfect for seniors on a budget. The benefits you acquire are well worth the effort.

It has been shown that not only physical but also mental activity is necessary for the brain. Crocheting requires seniors to read and to remember certain steps and procedures keeping the brain active. Hobbies are a good way to socialize with others and to meet new friends. Joining a senior craft club is a fun way to share your expertise or to learn a new one while you enjoy yourself relaxing and talking with others. Crocheting is a craft that creates blankets, sweaters, scarves, afghans, doilies, tablecloths, toys and many more things out of thread or yarn.

Crocheting is a great way for seniors on a limited budget to be able to make something to give as a gift for birthdays or Christmas gifts. A hand crocheted article is made with love and greatly appreciated by anyone who is lucky enough to get one. There are also many charities that would love to accept crocheted articles made by seniors such as homeless shelters, local hospitals, and retirement homes just to mention a few.
