Swimming As A Senior Hobby

Swimming as a hobby for seniors is a healthy choice. Swimming is a totally perfect exercise because you use all your muscles at once. The very best you can do with swimming is to swim laps as many as you can each time you get in the pool or lake. Your breathing while swimming well strengthen your lungs and kicking your feet will strengthen your legs and lower body. Stroking the water with your hands and arms strengthens your upper body. Swimming also strengthens the heart.

After you hit 55, you are considered a senior citizen and not all seniors are able to swim the perfect form for swimming laps. But there are a lot of senior facilities that have pools and classes for the lap swimmer, classes for arthritic seniors and water aerobic classes for all seniors to have an easier time exercising their tired bodies.

There is also the YMCA that not only has pools and swimming classes, but other athletic games to play for exercise. They also have floor exercises for seniors. The local college is another place to find a swimming class. The college could be a community college or any large university.

The hobby of swimming will also put you in a place where there are other senior swimmers like you and they could become lifelong friends. There are a lot of seniors, both men and women, that are in the same boat as you. They need a hobby to work on and they need to meet people for friendships as both are crucial to a happy and healthy life.
