Scrapbooking For Seniors

The demographic shift of baby boomers maturing into retirement and beginning to swell the senior ranks has arrived. As we begin to adapt to this phase of our life, we realize that there begin to be an increasing limit to the activities we enjoyed during younger years. However, there are many new activities in which we can easily participate and enjoy. Scrapbooking is an activity on which many seniors choose to spend leisure time. This is an activity that not only will be enjoyable while putting together, but will be of lasting value to future family generations.

The process and development also provides therapeutic benefits while working on the scrapbooking. Building the scrapbook will stimulate the senior’s imagination while finding a creative and personal design and layout. The process of building a scrapbook can be a visual trip through the history of you and your family’s life encompassing generations. Separate scrapbooks could be designed relating to different portions of you and your family’s life. The visual images and mementos would probably be much more interesting to a child or even a young adult than simply listening to the tiring stories.

In fact, the younger members of the family could bring a photo or memento to add when they come to visit. Important dates and names could be recorded in the scrapbooks to help the senior remember important milestones in their life. This chronicles events that might one day be either forgotten or difficult to remember. The enjoyment to the senior, their families and caretakers would enhance all of the related lives and time together.
