As you reach the golden years, you may decide that travel is in your plans for the future. However, before you jump on board a cruise ship or airplane, there are a few things you may want to consider.
Airfare can be extremely expensive and does not offer many senior discounts. Flights also do not allow you the opportunity to explore different places along the way. Therefore, more and more seniors are looking for alternative choices for travel. One way is taking an all expenses paid cruise. Some of these package deals offer senior discounts or “single-friendly” tours, where you do not have to pay for double occupancy, provided you are willing to have a roommate.
Another option is a senior travel group. This is a great way to meet new friends and see famous landmarks all over the world. Group travel provides seniors a way to explore without having to worry about accommodations and transportation, as these are typically included in the group price. It is usually less expensive in a group than it would have been alone.
Of course, whatever way you choose to travel, it is important to be prepared. Take out travel insurance in case of a medical emergency, notify your family of your plans so they can reach you if necessary, be sure to bring along enough of your medication to last the entire trip, and be sure your passport or visa has at least 6 months validity. Remember, the more prepared you are, the better and more pleasant your trip will be.
