Seniors Playing Bingo

Bingo is a great relaxing hobby for seniors, with no certain number of people required in order to participate. Most communities have designated times and places for seniors to play Bingo, which is an opportunity for social contact as well as keeping the mind and body active.

Seniors who enjoy Bingo can play anywhere, even in the park. In San Bernardino, the Parks and Recreation Department offers Bingo on Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 PM from July through September at the park bandshell. Seniors are invited to play for free with prizes donated by local sponsors. Senior Bingo is followed by a night of music from a local concert bandbeginning at 8:00 PM. So seniors look forward to going to the park on Thursdays.

"Low vision" cards with big numbers (5/8 inches high) black on white cards, are most generally used for seniors. Talking Bingo games (Speaking Bingo) are available and reasonably priced, usually under 30 dollars. This small talking bingo unit will call out each number strong and clear for seniors who play alone, with a friend, or with a group. Twenty-five three inch by five inch bingo cards are included, and 100 mini bingo markers. The LCD display is about as large as a cell phone screen. The disadvantage to the talking bingo game is that it is not available in large print, and it requires batteries. This set is recommended for seniors with good vision and good hearing.

The main thing is to stay active and involved.
