Knitting for Seniors

Knitting is a hobby that appeals to every age group from school-aged children all the way to our most senior of citizens. If you have never knitted before, remember it’s never too late to take up a new hobby, especially if the hobby is as fun and versatile as knitting.

It doesn’t take any special expensive equipment other than a 2 dollar pair of knitting needles and a 3 dollar skein of yarn. You don’t have to step out of your home to partake in your knitting hobby when the weather is bad. On the other hand, you can take your knitting outside and sit in the warm sunshine enjoying these last few days of beautiful autumn weather.

Knitting is a hobby that can be shared with a group of friends visiting over a cup of coffee. Unlike noisy sewing machines, knitting is a quiet and peaceful hobby where no one has to shout to be heard. You can listen to your favorite music as you sit in your most comfortable chair or catch up with the evening news while you produce beautiful and unique items. Knitting is like coloring for adults - you can express your artistic side and play with different color combinations.

If you don’t have someone special to knit for, you can knit toys or different articles of clothing to sell or donate to your favorite worthy cause. If you are just starting out, start with something small and easy such as colorful dishrags. You can move up to scarves with different stitches and patterns to learn different techniques. Once you are comfortable with the craft you can move on to more complicated projects. Producing beautiful and unique handmade knitted items are the final reward for such a fun hobby.
