Scrapbooks for Seniors

Many senior citizens find that the hobbies they once enjoyed have lost their appeal, often due to physical limitations. The aches and pains from either the natural course of aging or illness puts restrictions on the things people do to stay active physically and socially. Scrapbooking is one hobby anyone can enjoy that has few physical requirements. It is a way for seniors to stay involved with their families and active in their social circles, without a great deal of physical exertion.

Scrapbooking has become a hugely popular activity with limitless possibilities. Many communities have scrapbook clubs. It’s just a group of local people who get together to make pages for their scrapbooks and share new ideas. For seniors who live independently, check the newspaper or local senior center for information. Assisted living centers often have similar groups for their residents. This is a great way for people to stay socially active.

Scrapbooking is an affordable hobby, so a day of scrapbooking with the grandkids doesn’t have to be pricey. Scrapbook supplies can be found online, at specialty stores and craft stores. The prices vary, of course, but watch your local dollar stores as well. Many discount stores carry a selection of papers and stickers that are acid free. Take advantage of sale items. You can find out of season things at great prices, and save them until you’re ready for them. Many craft stores will offer coupons for thirty to forty percent off one item. That coupon can be used for a new scrapbook.
