Bicycling is a Great Hobby for Senior Citizens

More and more senior citizens are beginning to ride bicycles. Some are joining riding clubs, and others are just riding for their health. Whatever your reason for bicycling, you need to make sure you know the laws. You have to follow the same laws that you follow if you were to be driving a car.

Never ride your bicycle on the sidewalk. Not only is it against the law, it is rude and not very safe. There are many obstacles you could run into, and you could hit a pedestrian.

You should always ride defensively. Make sure you know what is around you, and what the cars are doing. If you need to you, can get a mirror mounted on your handlebar or helmet to help you see the cars behind you.

It helps to get familiar with the route you take. You should always look for dangers such as pot holes, or debris in the road.

Always use hand signals while you are riding your bike so that motorists on the road will know what you are going to do. You should always ride on the right side of the road with traffic. Always wear a helmet, and it helps to wear gloves and elbow and knee pads. You should always carry a water bottle with you.

Always ride your bike at a speed that you can control. Don’t go to fast, you could have a wreck. Make sure that your bike is functioning properly before you take it for a ride. Most importantly, you should always talk with your doctor before you begin riding a bike. You need to make sure that you’re in good enough health to begin that kind of exercise.
