Exercise for Seniors

Senior citizens need to look at exercise as a hobby. After all, how many hobbies will help you look younger, feel better, and have more energy? Exercise as a hobby can slow the decline in cardiovascular health that comes with aging.

It is never too late to begin exercising. Exercise is the secret to living longer and feeling better. It is important to check with your doctor before you begin exercising.

When selecting your exercise, select an activity that you will enjoy. Walking or dancing for 30 minutes a day is a fun activity you can enjoy. Walking is an activity that can be done outside when the weather is good or try “mall” walking during the cold winter months. You can also reap good benefits by spending time with grandchildren. It is amazing how toddlers have so much energy and seniors will get exercise without even thinking about it after a couple of hours of playing with the children.

Aerobic activity is the best way to exercise your heart and lungs. Examples of aerobic exercise is walking, swimming, cycling and dancing. This type of activity can improve your overall health.

There are a lot of anti-aging products on the market but none of them will provide the benefits of exercise to keep you young and active as exercise. Be sure to include cardio, strength training and flexibility in your exercise routines. Make your exercise activities fun. Ask a friend to join you. Exercise can improve your quality of life.
