Knitting for Seniors

Many seniors, nowadays, are helping out by knitting blankets to send to foreign countries in need. They are also knitting various things to raise money to send to places like Kenya to help build new schools. This keeps the seniors busy, as well as doing something for a good cause. The children will use the blankets to sit on in their school.

Another group of seniors are knitting blankets and sweaters for the flood victims in Iowa. They call themselves "Stitching for Others." They spend many hours knitting things such as mittens, socks, scarves and hats, among other things.

Some of the seniors in various cities across the country are knitting hats to send overseas to our servicemen and women. They are made to fit under the helmets for the troops stationed in Iraq. To this date, more than 250 hats have been sent.

Knitting has long been a good hobby for seniors as well as younger people. The fashion designers have changed the trend of knitting, as there are many more new designs and patterns to choose from. Knitting seems to have a higher status than it used to. This change in the image of knitting has contributed to some public figures as knitting fans. It is no secret that knitting has become more popular in the last 10 years, and therefore is the perfect outlet for seniors who want to keep busy and, in some cases, do good at the same time.

For seniors, this can open up a whole new world. There are many books and videos on knitting as well as instructions online.
