Keeping Seniors Busy

Everyone knows that people are living much longer now than ever before.  Those approaching the senior ages, or already in the senior age, seem to be far more physically fit than before.  Is that because they were more active during their careers?  Or because many of the “baby boomers” now retiring were very much into a lot of “health” food phases?  No one has the answer.  It is just a fact that the majority of those individuals now retiring, as well as many already retired, are far more mentally and physically fit.

Developers have also studied the new generation of retirees in order to stay up with the demands of proper housing to market.  Because of this active generation, the trend is becoming more and more to be “active adult communities,” rather than “senior housing” or just “retirement communities.”  The difference in the active adult communities is the word “active.”  Most of these communities provide not just a single golf course for these folks, but now are developing “neighborhoods” with several golf courses, tennis courts, bocce ball and pickle ball areas, as well as walking and biking trails.  Many of these adult communities are also providing libraries, rooms that provide internet access, and other educational opportunities.

The focus has become “keeping” the seniors active.  These active adult communities are popping up everywhere, and are very much in demand.  Besides all the sports and educational opportunities offered, the older seniors are not forgotten either.  If individuals have no interest in sports, or are not physically able, these new communities seem to provide a wide variety of crafts, board games, card games, and even volunteer opportunities for seniors, all within their community.  If you are searching for this type of retirement, check the internet for “active adult communities.”
